Increasing the brightness on your PSOne screen

LED-Modded PSOne screens are a whole lot darker than the unmodded ones, even with the brightness control turned all the way up. This can be pretty annoying, especially when you're somewhere other than a dark room. With this mod, you can fix that problem and make your screen a whole lot brighter and the brightness control useful again.

AD725 RGB to composite/s-vid (pal and ntsc) datasheet

This is the datasheet for the AD725, which can convert an RGB signal into PAL or NTSC s-vid or composite. This is useful for consoles that only output RGB or for using a PAL console on an NTSC screen and vice versa (if I understand the datasheet correctly).

Removing the Bottom of a PSone Screen

Okay so everyone has seen SifuF's screen hack in which he removed the bottom of the PSone screen. But it seems no one else has done it that I know of. Once I knew it was possible, I gave it a try using a broken board to trace connections and practice on and low and behold it worked when I did it for real! Like SifuF said, its not very hard. I have some pictures in my SNESp work log of the completed product of this mod in case you're skeptical.

Input S-Video to your PAL psone screen

I wanted to get better picture quality on my portable (The Sega Game Block) because i was sick of using composite as it sucks ass.

I was tracing around were video signals go an the board and i came across this philips chip the doesn't seem to be present on NTSC screens. I probed around the chip with the oscilloscope wile inputing composite video the normal way and noticed that it was outputing a pure chroma signal through to the AN2526NFH chip. And on another pin it was outputing a luma signal. Then i got the idea that i could input a s-video luma signal in to the composite input and then input a s-video chroma to where the philips chip outputs to the AN2526NFH ciruit.

PAL PSOne screen board pictures - hi-res

For those who need them. Note that this is the powerplay version. The differences are some wires soldered to the board, as well as some of the top being chopped off. Nothing significant. Pictures of the original added.

Making a PSOne screen look better/ removing scratches (Removing the anti-glare layer)

If you're like me sometimes while working on the Psone screen you might scratch it up or smudge it a bit. Also you might notice that it's a bit murky looking.
Well on the top of the LCD is a anti-glare layer. It is a protective layer that is on top of the LCD that also serves the purpose of reducing glare. But it has the side effect of muting colors and reducing brightness. The solution: TAKE IT OFF !!
